Time for some progress!

Ok so i've had my Z since january of '05 and im finally getting around to working on it. here's whats going on.

Here is my intake minus the stock fuel rail.

There were so many brackets and bolts, i didn't want to have to take apart the front cover, so yeah i borked the lines. I figure i can just run FI hose to it later?

Here's the stock rail minus injectors. I was going to try and get a pressurized rail system from Palnet but i already have 6 good injectors on stand-by so ill just try those. Should i soak them in trans fluid overnight though? I've heard of injectors drying out..or is that a myth.

Im guessing that's the fuel pressure regulator there. I'll be replacing that...any suggestions?

Just a couple of pics

Oh man... that takes me back. My Z looked EXACTLY like that 10 years ago ( except it looks like mine had more rust ).

And you didn't need to kill the fuel rail... just one bolt on the right side of the head, and remove the upper pulley on the front. You get to replace the rail now.

Yes, but I would cut the ends off clean and then flare them so the fittings seal well.

well of course...does any have any experience with line of this nature:

http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/63034K/10002/-1

would it even work?

Also, i know its kinda redneck but ive been thinking about building a fuel rail out of T-blocks, with barbed connectors to each injector, so i can use my stock replacements for now, and hard line in between each T-block, and gauge too. Would anyone else be crazy enough to try this?

$83 + shipping??? For $100 you can get a Pallnet or JSK fuel rail that will actually look nice.

What kind of T-blocks? And yes, that is reck-neckish, and the wrong way to do it. It's usually better to fix mistakes with PROPER remedies.

Well i meant to use the line instead of hose since i borked the line on the front of the engine, and it doesnt have to be that actual line, i just thought line looks better than hose. To give you an idea of what i was planning....

Something along these lines. I'll price it out later.

^^^ Just an fyi... the FPR goes AFTER the fuel injectors (where your "fuel pressure" drawing is). It wouldn't do much good before them. Switch the fuel pressure gauge & FPR... then you'll be good.

I think it ran me about $130 for a fuel rail and gauge from Pallnet.

Your ZX, looking a little dirty, but it looks clean. Is it in decent condition?

Ok, so a co-worker of mine, her husband was a machinist in the navy and she asked him for me if he could fab up a fuel rail. Since i have barb type injectors and very little $$, I designed a rail that he could make utilizing what i already had. Below is the design I submitted this morning. Thanks to the tips I got from Nismo and the sticky article about cleaning up your intake here is what i came up with.

Ill post pics of the actual rail when i get it.

You should learn some CAD if you are going to be fabricating stuff up in the future.
I'm not sure if you can pull it off, but AutoDESK is allowing "students" to download autocad 2008 for free

www.students.autodesk.com

Just worried there will some mistakes from confusion reading plans and it takes less time woot!

Oh, ive got it, and im 1 class away from my certification in it, but for all intents and purposes paint is faster and easier to manipulate, and a jpeg is so much easier to transport and swap between different computers and programs. Especially when you are making diagrams at work on your lunch break

The rail is delivered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My rail came in last night. Its pretty sweet..a little heavier than i wanted but its build out of hydraulic stock..i guess the guy thought it needed to handle like 500psi or something like that. Any how i have pics below and then a few question related pics..advice needed. Thanks

So ya, thats the rail.....below are some pics of some lines (and i know chiltons is bad but its all i have) that i cant find in my book.

there is that ancillary cooling line i read about blocking that off somewhere on here, but these come out of that block, and i saw in the chiltons that these are vacuum lines?? is that right? They go back to the water neck just right of the tensioner pulley.

there is that white plastic ?valve? with 3 barbs off of it. this is where those 3 lines come back to.
