Towing ?????

If i plan on towing my 82 280zx with a car dolly, meaning the front wheels will be on the trailer and back wheels on the ground, Do I need to disconnect the driveshaft and remove it?? or is that just safer??? Plan on going 1000 miles with some mountains in the way, thanks

that's the auto trans you needs to watch out for. just pop her in N and your ready to go. It won't spin any more then if your goin down the road and throw in N and coast. won't hurt anything.

I was always told that you aren't supposed to tow automatics like that because the transmission is spinning and the oil pump isn't running but i've towed tons of automatics and never had a problem so i honestly dont' think it hurts anything...

You tow automatics w/ the drive wheels off the ground... towing an auto 280zx = rear in the air, front on the ground. There's a lot of web sites that talk about towing cars. Google it.

PS... 1k miles towing that way is going to drive you nuts. It'd be A LOT easier to throw it on a flatbed.

Agreed. Spend a few extra bucks and rent a U-Haul trailer, not a tow dolly.

Tow dolly's are fine for around town, but long distance I wouldn't recommend it.

second that plus if for some wierd reason you blow a tire its better to have a flatbed one blow other than your tire or the dolly. You dont want your car to get damaged do you?
