Turn signal questions. Help please!

My turn signals and hazards don't work at all. I replaced the switch underneath the dash, but no cookie. I've decided that I will clean the contacts where the turn signal lever is (from what I've read, this is what I should do).

The problem is that I don't know what I'm looking to clean. I have already taken the steering wheel off and am at the turn signal assembly. This really is the first time I'm doing anything like this and I would appreciate a push in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

Get a multi meter and the FSM from XenonS130 and chase the problem through the schematics. Randomly replacing/cleaning isn't really the best way to find the problem.

The hazard switch is a notorious problem for what you've described - is it working OK?

FricFrac- I've talked to a mechanic and he said if the fuse is good(which it is) and if the switch has been replaced(which it has) then it's in the signal assembly.

I just wanted to know how to take it apart so I can give it a look. This is the only electrical thing in the whole car that doesn't work.
