The Voice - Talking Lady

If it's working intermittently, it's probably just a bad connection. There's no "chip". These cars were designed before car "computers" were much of a reality. That talking voice is recorded and played back on a little mini RECORD, as in spins on a platter...

Uhhh... yeah. Get a cheap volt meter and test continuity at every junction point. I would clean the connections with electrical contact cleaner and seal it with Lithium grease as you go just to make sure it doesn't go bad again later.

They are recorded on a RECORD as in a record player that uses a needle to play the music. Unless you have the ability to "press" another piece of vinyl, no chance. If someone had an immense amount of "spare" time, you could actually build something to "intercept" the commands and write a program to play back a specific MP3 or WAV for each "event" instead of activating the record. I'm not sure I've got that much free time left in me and I'm not that attached to the talking lady other than the nostalgia factor.

If Nissan even made one like that is still a mystery to me.

That'd be cool to intercept the signal and have it play specific messages for each warning, then when you get sick of it change it. Or put really annoying things when other people are with you. Like when you have a passenger and fuel level is low something like "Passenger is hurting gas mileage." Or when the door is open "Hey jackass close the door"
Or just make it british and everyone will think you have some sort of integrated GPS that can tell you all about your car.

Rear right side fender well, inside the car. Remove the spare tire cover. You will see a 5" square box. Unplug it and replace it. That unit has the moving parts in it.
the amplifier that the signal goes to is a long silver unit under the glovebox. No moving parts there so it probably still works. I replaced the black unit once and it fixed the voice warning system. It played a little slow at first but sounded better after she got warmed up.

We've talked about it numerous times.

I would suggest replacing it with a used unit. Find someone parting out a car either locally or online. (eBay?)
I wasn't meaning you should ask a dealership. Who wants to pay $100-400 for something like that? Whatever it costs from Nissan, I'm sure its a LOT if they even have it. I got mine from a wrecked turbo Z. Probably sat for years but it worked.
see if you can pick one up for five or ten bucks.
