alright, sorry for taking so long to reply to this, kinda killed this thread and i think this thread could be pretty interesting, so i found out, yes, it is a 1983 280zxt ECU, colored green. ok, so the current projects im finishing this weekend would be to put my rear window louver in that i found at a pick a part place, just have to make some brackets for it, and that will be done, also i just started my new sound system project, i totaly gutted out the trim, foam, and carpet to get as much space as possible, and then im gonna try to cut the rear panels to fit the speakers neatly, like they are sunken in the walls...installing 1 12" sony 1800w sub and 2 12" 800w kickers, 2 700watt performance technique amps, 2 6-way 6x9's, and im gonna try to get some 9" mids to fit on the door pannel...i love loud music sorry...and then the last but not least project for the weekend is to sand down my girl, and treat the rust spots, and bondo a couple dings on the right fender, and that should keep me busy for the weekend, how about you guys??

I used to have a big stereo in my ZX and I was replacing the alternator every 6 months. Fortunately, my next door neighbor owned a 'starter and alternator' repair shop, so I got mine replaced for $15. He kept one ready for me whenever I needed it. I would install the "new" one and he'd rebuild the old one and set it on the shelf for me when I needed it.
Unless you have a hook-up, you probably won't be able to get that kind of deal these days.
I would recommend the 120 amp alternator upgrade from "Z Specialties" in Washington.

The rebuilt alternators are all 60 amp, even for the Turbo they're 'compatible'.
Back in the 80's I used to run a 2300w RMS stereo system in my Z and it would put such a load on the alternator when it was cranked up you could feel the car loose power from the parasitic drag on the alternator.
This blew diodes in the alternator pretty regularly requiring the rebuilds.
None of my cars has a stereo with more than 500watts at this point, I just don't hate myself that much anymore...
But, the 105 amp alternator with my 130/100 watt narva bulbs in my Cibie H4 headlights and driving lights makes a good combination.
