What are all these components behind the dash?
Greeting folks. I'm continuing to try to put our Lemons car on a diet, and I think the next thing to go will be the dash. While at a Pick 'n Pull recently I came across an '83 that had the dash pulled and saw how many odds and ends there were back there. I've circled the three main components in the first image, curious to know what they are. I'm assuming it's primarily heater and AC? I'm tempted to keep a heater just so we can defrost the windshield on rainy days, but would like to yank anything else which isn't necessary. The second image is what our dash currently looks like. Thanks in advance.

I would have thought you had downloaded the FSM by now... or splurged and bought a Haynes manual for $10.

#1 is the vent control box and heater core.
#2 is the a/c unit.
#3 is the fresh air / recirc door.
People who still want vent controls, but also want to lose some weight usually yank the a/c evaporator core from the plastic box, then seal and reinstall the box. Otherwise you'd have to fab up some funky plastic corridor to bring in fresh air from the cowl.

Datsun makes that funky piece. For cars with no ac. I had one but chucked it out cause who wants no ac. Lol. If you really want to save weight peel all the useless wires out of the harness for things like cruise ac the horn turn signals clock talking lady and stereo etc. you'd be surprised how much all that copper and casings weigh. Tedious but free
