What is this? Can I remove it?

Hey guys. Our 280zx made it through last months 24 Hours of Lemons down in Buttonwillow, so we are now prepping it for the race at Infineon in March. One of the things which happened toward the end of the last race was that a hose which comes out of the exhaust manifold snapped, leaving us with a large exhaust leak. The hose that broke then feeds up through an S-shaped metal hose, then to a small box close to the air intake. This box was capped off by the previous owner as you can see in the photo. My question is whether the hose that broke has any necessary function other than something to do with smog (which this car will NEVER go through again.) Basically, can I just cap off the exhaust manifold where the hose entered and toss the rest of the connected bits into the garbage? Thanks in advance.

Is that wall paper you have tape up for paint protection?

Yes it is indeed wallpaper. For paint protection? Absolutely!!! The roller-applied Krylon Hunter Green paint is of concourse quality, and we just couldn't bear to risk scratching it. As for the drifting comment, those sweet rims will be up for sale very shortly, the 18s just don't have good tire selection for Lemons and they are heavier than ideal for top shelf racing such as we are doing will be sold with the accompanying spacers.

Other than the grey masking tape, nice idea! Just be careful in peeling the tape off.

FricFrac. Wish I'd had that offer a couple of weeks ago, would have jumped on it. However, just bought some 15's. Doh!!! Let me know if you'd like to buy them though, shipping to Canada might be on the high side though.
