Where It Goes, Why Loose, What is It.

Frist, On stock radio, on driver's side of course is the cig lighter. on the other side is a switch. I got the switch, but not the ****. nor do I know what it does. (What is It).
Secound and Third are in the pic's (Where It Goes, and Why Loose) The Throttle bar message, rear motor, and throttle linkage are not part of the question, but just to help you see where the pic is at. The Where the hell does that go to, and the cable are the question's/ sugestions to what I should do to it.

The first picture is of the EGR tube. It's supposed to bring exhaust gas back to the EGR valve. Somebody either cut it on purpose thinking it would give them a power gain or the pipe just broke (Like mine did) and they bent it over and crimped it off. The other end of it comes off the exhaust manifold, just above the collector. If that lower end is open or even has a small leak, it's gonna sound like caca, and you'll have a nasty exhaust leak. Also, if your car has an o2 sensor... it'll create mixture issues due to the fact that it sits before the o2 sensor.

Second one is at a weird angle, but I think it's the cable for the Cruise Control.

Well said. Do you have a repair manual? It would really help you!

I have a manual, but it covers all Z's (except 350) and don't really get into detail to much. But it was the only book I could find that had 280zx in it, so had to get it.Chilton or something like that, made by Haynes. One more thing, What was the final month in 83 that they stopped the 280zx? And what does the Switch on the right side of the ash tray do?

The place where you have a switch is empty on mine, and just has a cover. Must be an add on switch for something like driving lights, etc...

Some cars (82-83 mainly) have a Wide Stereo button on that side. You can switch your music to sound like its coming out of a large coffee can. It adds a strange reverb to everything.

I remember that from my old Z! It was a strange sound.

That spot is a great place to install an extra outlet to power a cell phone or whatever. That's what I did with it. It's also a good place to put a boost control **** if you're runnin' a spooler.
