Wife's Going to Kill Me

I purchased another 280ZX at the local charity car auction (the "boss" AKA Wife doesn't know yet). It's a 1983 280ZX Coupe (non-turbo) 5 spd, T-top and the body is in better than fair condition. There is a little surface rust (I can take care of that). You turn the key and it starts immediately, the tires are so new the rubber strips are still on them. I have it parked at a friends house and have to go there to work on it. The leather seats are perfect and it has one small crack on the dash. We have 3 Z's now and my oldest son and youngest son have the other 2 Z's. I only think it fair that I should have one also. I found extra new stuff in the car also. One thing I need that's missing is the rubber disks that are glued to the T-tops to hold the shade pannels (which I also have with the covers for both the pannels & the T-tops. If anybody has extra rubber disks that they want to sell I would be interested in buying 3 (found 1 in the car). I may be dead if you wait too long as the wife will find out eventually. Thanks

name the car after your wife so she don't steam toohot--you still wanna get a little once in a while--so bribe her by naming the car for her and buy ROSES and decent bubbly--have a nice dindin with her THEN take her to see the babe with her name------????

OR---find a full suit of mail--like the knights used to wear--should keep the louisville slugger from hurting soooomuch???

good luck!!

you can buy z32 units that willwork with your sunshades. They are differnet than the 280zx but if you get both parts so what. Not that expensive. hard part is to get them to stick to the glass. I went to a local glass place and they glued them on with urethane for five bucks a piece. Haven't had a problem since. Other than that need to find a junker and pry them off the t top. stil got the glue it on problem tho. i tried a number of different adhesive alternatives for my sunshades and the urethane at the glass place is the only one that worked for more than three monghs.

It's really easy to not only get the Wifey to let you spend money on cars, but to have her actually WANT you to do it!

I'll explain it again for those who are newer here.

My wife and I have an agreement:

For every dollar I spend on my cars that is not for something maintenance or upkeep related... She gets an equal dollar to spend on what ever she wants.

In other words, if my radiator goes bad and I replace it with a stock unit, it doesn't count... But, if there's nothing wrong with my current radiator and I decide I want to put a KOYO Racing Radiator in it because it's "Cool"... That counts and she gets the equal dollar amount.

So, when I come home with goodies for my car, my wife is EXCITED because she knows she gets to go on her own shopping spree. If I decide I see another Z car for sale that I can't live without... No problem to her, because it's like payday!

Now, the result of course is that everyting I do for upgrades and such effectively costs double because of this. But, it's well worth it knowing everybody is happy.

Rod.

even though thats a sweet agreement Rod...you also will need to be fairly well off on your own to keep up that deal and not get into financial troulble, lol....

That is a sweeet deal Rod. But you need to work it to your advantage like the guy in the following story did.

Three guys decided to go on a deep-sea fishing trip. The first guy says "I had to build a deck on our house in order for my wife to let me go on this fishing trip".

The second guy says " That's nothing, I had to remodel our kitchen with new cabinets, countertops, wallpaper and appliances before my wife would agree to this fishing trip".

The third guy says nothing. Several minutes passed and he sat smiling, but had still made no comment. One of the other guys asks him "what did you have to do to get your wife to let you go on this fishing trip?"

"Oh, nothing... I just rolled over in bed, put my arm around her and said what'll it be? Fishing or sex?". She said "Don't forget your sunblock!".

I made the statement at ZDAYZ in May that I would like to get a Z from every generation - 240,260,280, 300 and 350. She said that sounds like a doable project, except for the 350. Since May, I have repainted the inside of the house, new dining room table, new hutch, new couch, new chair and ottoman and new flooring on the way. I think she outsmarted me, I should have just shut up and been happy with my 280ZX!

And you still haven't gotten anything in return. Well yeah that kinda sucks. One day you should come home with your next Zcar, and say, remember when....

No, you just need to go at a pace you can afford.

Why do you think I've been working on my car for almost 4 years now???????

Yes, I did get something in return, and it wasn't the fishing trip ....hahaha.
I'm taking my time. If you look at my cardomain page, I still have to paint the car, put struts and springs in, and dashcap. Also the stereo, padded arm rest with drink holder, carpet and shift **** are waiting for the body work and paint to be completed, so everything doesn't get covered with dust etc.
Then I am putting a JDM motor in her Miata and then it will be my turn. We needed the remodel of the house anyway, so if she wants to call that her part, that is money I had to spend anyway, so I am game for that. Now who outsmarted who?

well my wife just about killed me when I bought my Z, and she wasnt to pleased when she had to ride back in it with the seatbelts not working, lol. I told her if we're going to get into a wreck that she needs to jump up out the ttop right before impact and she'll be fine! Yeah she didnt like that too much...

Post pics and let us know if you survived!

My wife HATES my 280zx with a passion more then anything else in this world. See she thought we were going out to buy her a car. I had been casually looking through classifieds where I spotted my Z. There were a few other cars at the same place that she might be interested so we decided to drive down to this place. Well I ended up buying my 280zx (without even consulting her. She was looking at other cars with another rep.) and she went home empty handed. Cold hearted? Maybe a little. But then when you consider that at the time I didnt have a car at all and she was just tired of the one she had it didnt seem like it was such a bad thing to do. The really bad part is that to this day she is completely unsupportive of the 280zx. On the contrary she was more then eager for me to get the 260Z because it meant I was letting go of the 280zx. Well now it turns out I may just be getting both. She's not too happy about that

She really likes the thought of applying Rods 50/50 deal to the 260 though

Now that's an awesome deal! Gosh, you and your wife have a great mutual agreement! I'm prolly better off that I'm single though, cuz I want, and buy, the "dude" AND "girly" stuff, and don't have to answer to anyone about my spending. I can't help it cuz I want the best of BOTH worlds.

The easist way is to keep separate bank accounts. She has her money and I have my money.

She pays her student loan, credit card bill, her gas and food/household necessities.

Of course, my money also pays the mortgage, home equity line of credit, credit cards, car payments, insurance, utilities, retirement fund, college fund(s), private school(s) and home repairs/upgrades/maintenance.

I get to do whatever I want with what's left over...

The "WIFE" still doesn't know as I have the car parked at a friends place. I go over to his house and work on the little things, but sooner or later (probably later) I will have to bring the sweet little thing home. Once I get rid of my Dodge van I will have more guts to bring it home. Although next year the "WIFE" is planning to visit her family in South Korea and we are talking about 3 to 4 thousand. I think it's more than a $1 to $1 trade off. Even if I didn't get the car the quiet is worth the money. Thanks Rogerz for the info on the T-top shade holders & I will check it out.

like i said--name the car after her, make it beautiful--do not forget the roses, etc-----
if i ever find anyone i want to hang out with regular, i would insist he NOT TOUCH my Z31 AE----he can drive my truck, he can drive my boat----he can pet my cat----but he can NOT touch my AE. non negotiable.
private school for kids in cali is non negotiable. do not go pubic--do home school first.
