'Wobly Steering'

I'm not sure if it's a common problem on a zx, but my steering is vibrating all the time, it less vibrates when I press the gas.


In potholes and unevengrounds, I feel that the steering is taking over and veering the car to and fro without the steering ever moving.


Should I just replace the ball joints and get an allignment?

how are your tires? are they wearing oddly? are they balanced good?

i had absolute junk tires when i bought my z and it shook like crazy due to all the tires being crap. one of em had fix a flat fluid in it, another had a huge buldge, another had a plug in the sidewall, and they were allll unbalanced, and were not the same size.

after i got all new tires, balanced them, and torqued them on, filled to correct air pressure, and checked out my wheel bearings, (which were surprisingly fine) the car went straight as an arrow.

Also, check your front tires for any flat spots. Since these cars don't have ABS, it's really easy to lock up the front tires when some idiot pulls out in front of you.

Best way to check is to jack up the car and spin the wheel. You'll see a flat spot in just a few revolutions if you have one.

well if its an early 79 it might have recripricateing ball power steering or what ever its called. mine has it and i have driven other cars that have had it and when the steering box in this type of system goes out it kinda goes out in a fashon like that.

of course if its got power rack and pinion then thats another story

I've fixed a slow puncture on it and equalled the tire pressure for both front tires. It reduced the 'steering wobble' significantly. Took it out to the mechanic and he said the tires are not alligned properly.


So will be getting some bushes and get a proper allignement!
