Steering Wheel Removal Questions
Hey guys I drive a 1986 300zx N/a Maroon digital dash Automatic transmission.
I have never removed a steering wheel before and I am going to attempt to see if my headlight switch contacts need cleaning via sandpaper like I saw on youtube (My front right headlight is out but the high beam works which makes me think thats the case), but I have to remove the steering wheel.
The previous owner switched out the steering wheel and it's a little off by a few mm so when driving straight the wheel is very sligtly turned, just a small amount, which means he didnt mark the original position before removing the wheel, when putting the wheel back on.
I bought a torque wrench for 30 bucks with a half inch drive on it but I am wondering what pounds/ft torque do I need to secure the steering wheel back in place?
Also can someone please give me a step by step for this process as I am very very new at this.
Thanks!

Hey - I have removed and replaced my steering wheel in my 87 a few times and never used a torque wrench to put it back on.
Maybe a professional mechanic may use one, but I think it can be perfectly and safely secured with a normal wrench It is pretty easy to tell when it is tight.

I secured it with a normal wrench and it seems fine, when I get my headlight switch fixed I will definitely be using a torque wrench just for peace of mind... but you're right it seems secured safely.

You have many options... so do some window shopping on ebay. You just need a hub, quick release, and steering wheel of your choice. Just make sure they all have the same bolt pattern.

on this note, please be careful of some of these and read into which ones interest you (i.e. customer reviews). my brother put an ebay special in a turbo GTI and it literally broke while taking a turn at 60 on the express way.
no, he wasn't drifting, but some of them are very flimsy
