84-86 Rear Brake Torque Members
Hey Guys,
I have a good one for you. My z is an '86 n/a -- typical z31 -- nothing special although it's part of who I am. At any rate, when I first bought the car about 5 years ago, I changed the rear calipers on mine with a good set I found on an '85 I found in the junkyard. Of course, I took off the whole caliper and torque member (with the sliding pins) from my '86 and must have used the ones I got off the '85. Although I don't remember when I did it, since then I have had to insert a thick washer in between where the torque member mounts to the rear control arm to give it enough clearance over the rotor. Funny, I thought, when I have seen junked z31's without such a spacer like I used to mount my torque members. Just to see if I was crazy, the other day I put on a set of new rotors in the rear and I didn't use those washers that I had there as spacers. Well, the rotors started grinding against that inside channel of the torque memebers enough that I really couldn't drive the car. I wasn't aware that the brakes were different between 84-86 although I know the calipers themselves are the same. Any thoughts?
