Sportmax 002 wheels

Hey guys,

I'm new to the z31 community, but I have a 1986 300zx N/A GLL and I'm looking to upgrade my wheels. Now, before I get started, I want it to be known that I've read AZbum's page about wheels and I've checked out the wheelshow on redz31, but I have a few questions just to clarify somethings.

I saw on the wheelshow that OR-Zman is running :
# wheel(s): Konig Rewind - Graphite
# wheel spec(s): F/R 15x7 e0 [Direct fit]

Now...I'm assuming [Direct Fit] means that they fit on there without any spacers or modification, but his car doesn't appear to be the same year as mine. Does e0 mean 0 offset? Also, I'm not sure if these wheels are available five lug.

The other wheels I had seen that are seemingly popular are the sportmax 002 . Now you can get the 15x7s with a 1.5 inch lip, but I'm not sure how to match that up to an offset, so I don't know how that would fit and whether spacers would be necessary or not.

Thanks guys,

Lee

Is this right?
Yes .. direct fit means no use of spacers nor adapter or any other modifications.

e0 .. means "0" or zero offset

1.5 inch lip would give your a rough approximation on the distance of the mounting plate to the outer edge of the wheel. What you need is the backspacing information ..

I recommend contacting a vendor or wheel mfg to get the information you need.

edit: Just based upon some googling .. Sportmax offsets range 20 to 40 ....

Thanks for the info. I'm assuming any wheel shop would be able to help me determine how difficult it would be to fit any specific wheel on my car.

Through some research, I was able to find that the sportmax wheels have an offset of +38, so I will definitely need spacers, right?

Z31 factory offsets varied by year and model. Z31.com has specs on that.

I believe something in the range of 30 to 35mm offset is stock. Some wheels depending on width may still fit with zero offset though.

you still might be able to fit the +38 wheels on your car

"86 non-turbo: 15x6.5 +10mm"

This is what it says on Z Bum's site. I'm guessing that if the stock wheel offset is +10mm and I'm looking at something +38, I'll need the spacer. The only thing I'm concerned about is that it might not look good...perhaps the wheels will be sticking out too far. I definitely wanna go with something around 15x7 because I don't plan to get a lot of power out of this car, so super wide wheels aren't necessary.

ok, by that calculation you do need adaptors. 25mm should do the trick.

5lug to 5lug 25mm if those are even made.

Oh, awesome. How did you calculate that? I've been reading up on offsets and backspacing, but some of it's still a little unclear to me. I think that by actually using this information to put wheels on my car, it'll help me to better understand.

Most shops are retarded and won't be able to find it since there are no books that they can read.

Read the information from my page that you already found.

Ummm.... +38 vs +10... 38-10 = 28. 25 is a very common spacer/adapter (same as 1").

If you read the whole page (don't forget the information at the bottom) and are still confused, please let us know what you're confused about.

Oh, I see... I was thinking that that's how he had done it, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't just a fluke on my behalf. Thanks for all the great info, your page is super informative Zbum.

Welcome to ZDriver... and there right, most shops don't know about what fits what car... if you like them, the shop will MAKE em fit... (add a spacer)

Thanks for the welcome. I guess that's kind of what I want to accomplish anyway...making the wheel fit. Haha
