Question Tires, Bigger rears

Is there any advantage to having a wider tire on the rear of the car, or is it best to go with 4 matching tires, and with the stock wheels on my 84 300zx (215 60r 16's I believe ) what is the largest over sized tire that would perform the best. I'm considering after market rims 17 or 18 inch, and was wondering if anyone has experimented with wider rears rims and tires, much like many porches are equipped. Any ideas or additional info would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you have a need for bigger tires all they will do is make your car handle worse and take a bigger hit out of your wallet when it comes time to buy them. I would recommend some 225/55/16's It's a very common tire size and should be plenty cheap.

hoov is right my yokahoma s-drives came out to under 250 and that was after getting my rims professionally powdercoated, the tires, and the tires installed. and they are that exact same size 225 55 16 its the 88 turbo stock rims buy don't ever get them in black i regret it everytime i look at my z.
