1985 ZX non-turbo random engine stall
Just driving merrily along, my 1985 ZX non-turbo's engine suddenly stalls out with no warning. All the electrical works, although I don't know if it's getting spark, and if I wait 5 - 10 minutes, it will start up again as if nothing happened, and off I go for another day or so of no problem. Then it happens again, quite randomly. At first it seemed to be when the engine was passing through what would be choke shutoff range, but now it's any old time.
Anyone else have this? Any ideas? All help appreciated.

Re: 1985 ZX non-turbo random engine stall
Thanks, but here's what just happened today. First I must say
since I got the car a year ago, I've had minor problems with the electrical with random outages of the AC fan, windshield wipers, and even dash lights.
Today, I drove around for five minutes with the AC on almost full and then parked but before I shut it off, I slid the AC up to high and bingo, the engine stopped just the way the AC fan used to stop randomly when I did the same thing.
I tried starting it again and nothing. I'm sure it will start when I try it again later, but dang, this is a mystery to me. I would super appreciate feedback from anyone with some info on this type of problem.
Is there a voltage or current regulator somewhere that could be going haywire?

Re: 1985 ZX non-turbo random engine stall
I've had similiar wierd stuff like that with my 86 na. When I changed out my alternator everything was normal again. I had no cold air with my AC, then all of a sudden it worked fine, figure that one out. The electrical system on these cars is very tempermental and so sensitive. Good luck hope you find someone who can fix the problem.
