Auto to manual tranny swap
Okay so here's whats up. My 88 z31 auto tranny is shot and im going to put a 5 speed out of an 86T. A buddy of mines engine went bust and hes going to sell me the tranny, drive shaft, the clutch master and slave cylenders, and the peddels. downpipes So my question is can i put the 5 speed from the 86 in the 88? do the mounts match? What is the differances in the wiring? any help is graetly appreciated!

I'm in the middle of one these projects myself. You need the flywheel off the 85 engine. Cost me $60 to have the used one one refaced. Toss the hydraulic cylinders. New master and slave cylinders are so cheap on the internet, it's hardly worth rebuilding old ones. Double check the parts list of what you need from the 85 car. Grab the hydraulic modulator mounted on the passenger side frame rail, but replace all rubber hoses with new. Be aware the drive line flange bolt pattern was changed on the 87-89 cars, the 85 drive line will not bolt up to your differential flange.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Yes, it solves the drive line flange issue. I'm not sure the later model half axles bolt up the same as on the 86 diff. If your 88 has posi-traction, the 86 diff will not be a LSD, so you'll loose than benefit.

The 86T diff has less gear reduction than either the 88NA or 88T diffs. In theory, top speed should increase 5 to 10 percent depending on which diff the 88 car currently has. Torque delivered to the rear axles will be similarly reduced. In practice, you'll likely experience no noticeable change. Alternatively, you can swap the drive flange from the 88 diff with the one from the 86T. I've never dismantled a R200, so I don't know what effect on gear lash may result from loosening the pinion nut on the differential.

Finally getting going
Are there any tips tricks that I should think about while doing the swap? I am just now getting to it since my daily driver needed new engine which stole the funds for the Z. I am planning on starting the swap next week. If anyone has any tips or tricks or general help is greatly appreciated! Thanks to everyone who has helped so far!

I am in the middle of swapping a 1986T manual transmission into my 1988n/a automatic. The problem is the transmission mounts don't line up! Am i just stupid and didn't see this in any of the write ups? What can i do? The new mount is about an inch behind the holes. Any help is appreciated!
