This blows
Today my dad called me when I was coming out of school. He drove my car and told me the transmission messed up. So I'm still deciding whether to sell it to my dad or buy a transmission and the two of us will fix it. I am little bit dissapointed, because my intentions were to make profit. Oh well.

So what? It bolts up the same.
Is your dad a mechanic? How does he "know" the transmission is "messed up"? What does "messed up" even mean? Is this an auto or manual?
If the trans really did "asplode"... find another and swap it in. Are you sure it's not the clutch, master, slave, trans fluid, or dirty ATF (depending on auto / manual) ???
So quick to get sad...

I would check the shift linkage before saying it's a bad trans. If the linkage checks out disconnect it and manually put it in first gear using the shift rod that the shifter linkage connects too. Also if it isn't slipping, I would put money on bad solenoids or a bad valve body, hardly something I would call a dead trans if it's true. Also you can pull the trans pan and pull the solenoids and test them. Same with the valve body.

If you drove the car and it was fine, and then your dad drove the car and it was broken, make your dad fix it.
Or you're not telling us something
Like Hoov said, check the linkage, I had a problem with that on my Festiva before I traded it, sometimes it would shift, sometimes I'd have to go all the way into "1", then up to "D" to get it to go.
