Brand New Intercooler Leaks - Send it back ?

I just got my brand new (ok, budget) intercooler off ebay and today I pressurized it and found that it leaks pretty badly.

I would think this is not good at all.

Send it back to whoever you bought it from and ask for another or a refund. If you don't have the money for something as cheap and simple as an I/C setup then maybe you should leave the car stock and just drive it.

Well,

I bought it on recommendation from a guy that calls himself "Satan" on Z31Performance. His VG30 powered Z31 ran like 10.3 or something like that.

Do you have a Z31 as fast as his by chance?

Never assume things....like others financial situations based on one post.

Just sayin.

We put in 15psi and it would leak back to zero in about 3 seconds.
The leak is substantial.

You can clearly hear the escaping air.

It is coming from an apparent hole (or seam failure) in the weld where the tube meets the core wall.
Problem is, it is too far inside to see it or get to it to try and fix it.
And even if I did, I'm not sure I want to start off with a new IC that way

The company has verbally agreed to send another.
If they do, all will be well.

No, I rather like being able to turn. Driving fast for 10-15 seconds in a strait line just doesn't get me off as much as entering a corner at 140mph and at the very last second hitting the brakes.

My DD R1 does though!

You said budget, intercooler and ebay in the same sentance, with the amount of broke *** people buying and "modding" their cheap cars, let alone saying those three words in the same sentance. We can only assume that you are either cheap or broke.
Just sayin.

If I had bought a new IC and it had a core problem like that (about 99% of all ebay IC's are made with cheap generic cores and flow like ****) I would ask for a refund and look elsewhere. with the amount of turbo cars recently, finding a good IC on the cheap is pretty easy.

That's because Satan has the ability to weld and can fix all the spots that those cheap *** ebay ICs have.

Once more....

SEND IT BACK!

Or, talk to the seller about him paying to have it fixed at a place local to you.

"once more" LOL

YES SIR !!!!

Actually, they've agreed to send another. And they said they will pressure test it before it leaves. I think most of the ebay IC's are pretty good. You guys may be over-reacting just a bit? But I appreciate your feedback. Also, he was specifically referring to their flow and heat rejection, not so much their ability to hold pressure. He was saying they are pretty dam good Intercoolers and cars with 700+ hp are using them with no issues. The post is on Z31Performance.com

I have come to believe the difference between a $400 intercooler and an ebay $100 intercooler is a few percentage points of efficiency and pressure drop. Sure, you'd get "peak" performance from the more expensive IC's but for us lowly street tuners, another pound of boost can cure that problem.
