Re: Cd Player
take it back to the shop that installed it and have them fix it.
sounds like they are using the wrong wires for power

Re: Cd Player
I assume that when you say that you pressed the "brake and had the heater on", that you also had your cd player on?
If it does the same thing with out the cd player on, then it could be something else. But if it only drops that low with the CD player on, then take it back and have them recheck the installation. It could be the CD player itself having some internal problems. Because just a standard head unit should *NOT* draw that kind of voltage, especially if your alternator is working properly, it could be drawing too many amps, my alternator can only handle 48 amps at 2000 rpm's to give me 13.5v output. So if your CD player is drawing an overload of amps, that could cause the volt meter to drop like that. But it's not normal, so a return visit to the shop is in order.
Also, I notice that the heaterblower is one of the most draining things on the electrical system. On all the cars I've owned with volt guages, whenever I turn on the heater blower motor to high, they all lose anywhere from 1 to 2.0 volts drain just from the heater blower. But unless your guage is seriously off, it really shouldnt drop below the 12 mark.
Does your dummy charge light ever come on when the volt guage is showing 8v?
