Cleaning Engine Components

So I was wondering what kinds of cleaner can I use to clean my engine block, heads, pistons, and cylinder walls. While pulling the timing gear out of the oil pump and using pb blaster on it. I noticed it really cleaned all of the surrounding oil and such. Can I use that to clean at all?

I use TSP to clean and prep machinery. it dissolves grease and gas stains. It is available at most hardware stores. I put 1 tablespoon in hot water in a spray bottle. You can scrub with brushes and rinse often to not let it dry. It won't etch the aluminum or remove paint. Much safer than blasting with a power washer.

PB Blaster is by far the best penetrator ive ever seen... but to clean, use engine degreaser from Gunk.

gunk is great but you need to let it sit awhile before rinsing. I use a 1600 psi pressure washer after that using care to not blow water into places it doesn't belong - like the tps or maf connectors or dizzy cap.
