Deciding if i should go Z as my first car!

So there is a 85 300zx local to me which i am really interested in. It has a great exterior and a medium interior. It was sitting in his yard for a few years and he said it needs some new hoses and a new radiator. Hes wanting 1100 for it as is, i really have my mind dead set on getting it. It has a new water pump and new timing belt. But i only have 1300 to spend on a car, so i dont want to buy it then have to spend alot of money trying to get it running. Should i buy it or should i pass?

Radiator will probably run you about $219 to begin with.
Motorsport! Radiator, 84-89 300ZX Non Turbo - The Z Store! Nissan-Datsun 240Z-260Z-280Z-280ZX-300ZX(Z31/Z32)-350Z-370Z Parts

If it has been sitting for "A few years", there is no telling what's wrong with it.

It could very well just need the oil changed, the radiator replaced, and some cracked/broken hoses replaced.

Or it could be knocking.

People who leave cars to sit, usually let them do so for a reason.

I would ask more questions before getting too attached to something that may be a $1,100 gamble.

I told him 1100 is just to much for me to risk on a car that would need more money then i have.

i decided to go Z as my first car and i got it for $500 because the previous owner could not figure out the problem as to why it would not crank. i am 16 and i figured out through much research that it was possibly the MAF or mass air flow and i hit it right on the nail. its a great first car to have but it comes with many risks and you will be spending extra time on her until you get all the quirks out. i also just recently bought an 1988 300zx non-turbo for 800 and im obviously obsessed now. the owner to that said the radiator was leaking but really all it was, was a hole in a small hose. $20 doller fix and hey guys, im only 16!
