Has anyone ever put 6x9s in the door?
Does anyone know if you can put 6x9s in the door? I was thinking that you could make some kind of metal bracket or some thing then a surounding. I dont know much about audio instilation but I want some killer audio and 6x9s would be the way to go. Thanks a lot!!

What year/model car? Anything is possible given time and money. But do you really want to build custom door panels that stick out from the door 2 to 3 inches so you have enough depth for the speakers? Personally, I'd stick with the original size speakers in the doors (at least 5-1/4"), some nice mids in the rear locations (if your car came with them) and one nice hidden 10" sub.
The nice thing about the Z-Cars is there is no rear seat to have to fire sound through. This means that while most people have to put 2 12"s in the trunk and cut holes in their rear deck, you can go a lot cheaper and get better sound.
And 6x9's are not a good speaker in general because of the way sound waves are created off them. Circular speakers create sounds with less distortion.
...and from the ashes shall rise a new hope. And it shall be known as "Z". And it will be good.

Re: Has anyone ever put 6x9s in the door?
Personally I like the sound I get out of seperates. no matter what make of 6x9 I've listened to, they sound mixed and moshed all together. im in the process of putting new speakers, amps, head unit etc into my 86300zx since the door speakers are bad and 6x9 would definately not even cross my mind.
Im planning on my 5 1/4 (or 5 1/2 - whatever the size is of my speakers I pulled from my Jeep) into the doors then usinga hole saw to cut the hole for the seperate tweeters up higher in the door (I like a lot of symbol sound along with my bass). The rears will just have midranges put into the shock towers and a box to hold my existing 2 12" JL subs, I may just re-use my existing box as it fits in the back of my 2+2 but it does take up all the space, but to save money......
In any event, 6x9's often sound distorted and like all the sounds are moshed all together, (and they are since everything is right there [usually] at the center of the cone).

Well for those of us that like a little more bass i went a little different.. I have 4 6.5 inch Alpine mids that are plently loud. pheonix gold amp, and 2 12 inch mids that i have cut molding my back so that they face me and the passenger. i have a 86 300zx 2+2 Turbo. If there is anybody wanting to know what exactly i did or would like help just let me know
