hello
Hello guys. My dad and I are purchasing an '85 300ZX this tuesday. This will be our third. My dad has an '05 350Z Enthusiast and I have an '03 350Z Enthusiast, both 6-speeds. Anyway this new car is going to be a father son project. It's a silver NT auto, with t-tops and power everything except seats. Like I said it's a project. It sat for 2 years, because the original owner hit a curb and parked it. They were well off and just let it stay there. It's only got 97K original miles and is totally stock. We're going to have to weld in some patch panels in the rear quarters with a full repaint. The only thing that needs replaced is the front bumper and a few small interior parts. Another thing is the key broke off in the ignition so we'll have to take it out to get the key. Anyway on to a few questions. Are there any resonably priced bumper covers that aren't stock, but look good? It's hard to find stock ones and they are a little pointy for my taste. I would definatly rather have stock than that tacky ricer stuff though. Also any advice on getting the ignition out? I took off all the plastic and noticed the bolts heads are rounded. I don't see how they are put in at the factory. I'm thinking about cutting off a bolt head and using JB weld to attach it to the round round head and using that to unolt the ignition. Anyway hello and hope to learn some thing here. Also thanks for any help.

Here's some links to find almost all the Z parts you'll ever need:
www.thezstore.com
www.blackdragonauto.com
and for all your Z31 questions & probs: www.az-zbum.com
For the ignition prob, check out my thread on removing one from a Mercury Tracer (will give you a good idea how to tackle the prob): https://www.zdriver.com/forums/other-cars-223/removing-ignition-switch-18429/
I also suggest buying a Haynes Manual, which will give you all the repair info you'd ever need. And welcome to ZDriver!

Thanks for the links. I thought about the dremel, but I think I'll try to JB weld a bolt head on it first. If that doesn't work I'll dremel it. I think I like the Xenon bumper too.
This one. It makes the front curve look less Dodge Daytonaish.

Okay. Sounds like you know from experience. Just thought it seemed like a tight fit for that method.

I may be way off in interpreting your "bumper cover" statement. I don't believe that the Xenon (or any of the front ends) can be called a "bumper cover"? They don't actually cover the front bumper, but attach .. below (in the case of the picture you posted) below the "black strip".

Locksmiths have the tools and know-how to extract broken off keys from lock cylinders. It happened to me about nine years ago.
This is what I did: I placed the key’s top half back into the lock cylinder so that it touched the key’s lower segment in the cylinder. I started the car up and drove to a locksmith. It took him about 15 minutes to extract the key and he charged me about $20. It’ll cost a lot more if you want the locksmith to come out to where ever your car is located and do it.
Notice that a z31 key is very narrow at the bottom. Because of this, it’s vulnerable to metal fatigue and can break off. The steering wheel locks up when you remove the ignition key. Don’t apply force to the ignition key if it won't turn. Apply force to turning the steering wheel, NOT the key!

I saw that with the better pics you provided. It looks like the Bomex is actually a full cover, but I still couldn't find a place selling it anywhere.

Or write to some of the Japan vendors ..
Japan Parts (even though not listed on the website) can "get" other parts ...
another possible place .. Takakaira comes to mind ...
