K&N Air Intake
Earlier i checked out this new car shop by my place called west coast auto trendz and they told me i could get a complete K&N air intake system for my car for around 190 canadian plus tax.. for my 86 300zx turbo. i'm curious if this would be worth it or not? and also i could get a flomaster exhaust for around 150 canadian? would that be worthe it? They also told me i should gut my cat converter, i know i won't pass air care without it but besides that is there any advantages or disadvantages to it? thanks

Re: K&N Air Intake
Most people do it this way. Much cheaper and works as well. I don't recommend Flowmaster on a turbo car. Dynomax and Magnaflow both make great straight through design mufflers which work best for turbos. Gutting your cat? I've heard it helps, maybe if your cat is old and clogged up. You can buy a "test pipe" to replace the cat (between emissions inspections) for about $35. for a 3" exhaust US from MUFFLER TECH TOLL FREE 1877-722-3784 email:mufflerdeals@AOL.COM

Re: K&N Air Intake
Definitely do the K&N yourself, it takes almost no time, I"ve done it, and it does make a difference *and* you can hear your car growl under acceleration I did mine with an 8" chunk of stainless 3" tubing and a 6" cone (you should use a 9", it fits better, it was all i could get my hands on) and it took about half an hour, and cost me about $50 CDN to do 2 cars!!! (I got my filters on Ebay, what a steal). Definitely do it yourself. It costs WAY less and is just as effective. As to the exhaust, i couldn't help you, mine was done when I got it.
