What's going on forum, glad to be here!

Picked up a Z31 just the other month because I wanted something old yet fun. This is my 3rd 300ZX, but only my 2nd Z31. It's an '85 Turbo Automatic

Don't worry, I won't come on here asking stupid questions which normally come with new-guys lol I'm on ALOT of car forums.

Anyway thought I'd introduce myself on here since I should be keeping the Z around for awhile. Recently sold my cammed Corvette, not to mention my Firebird, RX7 FD3S, and other toys. Being a disabled vet has forced me to sticking with automatic cars for the most part which really limits the driving experience but I digress.

Hoping to make somewhat of a sleeper out of this thing the same way I did with my PT Cruiser and other odd vehicles.

Check it out -

and of course, my recently sold cars

Wife says I go through cars more than I go through underwear

and here's my last 'sleeper'. I intend on doing better with the Z31; the PT never went to the track after I installed a Devil's Own meth-kit.

The auto trans is the weak point in the Z31. I've owned a few auto trans turbo's and this mods is very helpful in making them last.

I remember coming across that pdf awhile back after learning about the lack of strength in the automatics so thanks for bringing it back up.

Ive also ran across the wealth of knowledge that AZBum has posted everywhere. The only thing alien to me are transmissions, and forced induction cars that utilize maf sensors and tuning them. My LT based corvettes are easy to get tuned with the help of a chip burner; I'm also familiar with timung/spark/fuel, etc when it comes to tuning in general. I've tuned several obd2+map equipped cars such as cobalt ss and srt4's but the z31 is all new to me.

Ive also tuned ls based fbodies since ive owned 2 of them in the past. Aside from separate management such as AEM EMS or similar, what other methods of tuning are available aside from ordering a pcm/etc?

bte I apologize for any minor grammatical errors. Currently typing from a phone.

Welcome to the forums. Aside from AEM's EMS setup, you can try Nistune but you will need to use the later 88-89 ecu for tuning. Some people have used the MegaSquirt system as a budget DIY setup too. Nice sleeper on the PT Cruiser with the SRT-4 wheels. What setup was on it? Did you use the Mopar Staged PCM, or AEM?

Thanks! The car does have some paint scratch/etc. but if you think the exterior's nice, you should see the interior! Got it from the original owner

Thanks as well!

I've heard of 'Nistune' but I'm not at all familiar with it; something to look into when I've got free time then.

As for the PT, yeah the SRT wheels looked cool and all but they're still just pizza cutters. I only had 215 wide tires whereas my Corvette and WS6 had 315 wide lol

In terms of mods, the PT had; K&N FIPK intake, +05 intake manifold swap upper and lower, 3" o2 housing, 3" cat-less dpwnpipe, 2 1/2" straight pipe, ported turbo manifold with elbow swap (it was a bottle-neck in the manifold), 16g (bigger wheel) ported turbo, 625cc Deutschwerks injectors, Devil's Own meth-injection kit, Stage 1 PCM, Diablosport Predator tuner, S2 wastegate, aftermarket cold-piping with HKS SSQV bov and a few other odds and ends I'm forgetting. I sold the car about 2 years ago but I do miss it; it's fun seeing the reaction of let's say an LS1 Corvette owner's face when a PT is outrunning him and this is coming from a Corvette-fan
