New To The Z Car
I am new to the Zseries but have always admired them. I am getting ready to go off to college and am sort of looking for a car. There is an '86 300ZX 2+2 for sale by owner near where I work. I think it would be a cool car and a fun car. It has 130k miles. I would say it is in fair condition; it definately shows its age but overall not bad for a 20 year old car. There is nothing visibly major wrong with it, only it needs new wiper blades, an antennae and that the interior shows wear. The asking is $1080 OBO (I think). Do you think this is a good price? I was hoping I could get it for six or seven hundred since it hasnt sold and its been there for a week or two. Also, what sort of maintenance costs can I expect. I mentioned it to my dad and he was worried about it being so old. How well do these cars hold up over time? I'd really appreciate some help with this. I go to school in a little over a week.

not a terrible price, but always try and talk them down anyways. the maintinence costs are just a bit over average, very affordable if you do it yourself. as far as reliability, my '87 is turning 170k in a few miles and drives great, dont let the fact that its 20 years old scare you off, look at how many cars only a few years old have well over 130k on them. like anything, if you take care of it, it will last. i'd say go for it, you'll definately get your thousand bucks worth.

You're spending $1000 and the car is almost 20 years old. How reliable do you really think it's going to be? If you want reliable, buy a 2 year old Honda.
However, the Z is as reliable as you want it to be. It will just cost you money to make it that way.
