New to the z31 z car.
So I recently acquired a 85 z na 5 speed 2 seater. It's ultra white with red interior... Yuk. Lol anyways, I had a friend that needed it gone, so jokingly I offered up 100 bucks.. Haha he took it... Sooo now I have a bit of a project. Here's the details..
The car runs and drives. Has 148k. Needs brakes replaced due to pads being worn.
The interior... Well it makes me cry.. It's red. And not just any red. Faded red to pink.... I'm going to remedy this with some int paint and dye.
It was painted but was done at a low cost place. Although it's in paint, I can see some dings and some places that need addressed.
It's setting on some ugly motegi 17 inch wheels... Lol
It has got magnaflow exhaust which sounds good.
Now, having paid 100 bucks I'd say it's a win. What I'm wondering is if I decide to redo it, are parts avalible for the interior? I am missing a console lid, and it needs some seals for the t tops and the doors. I know my z32 car parts are few and far between when it comes to the weather seals. Just wondering about the z31?
On a side note, I had a chance to buy and 84 50th anniversary car some years back and passed on it bc it was in bad shape. At the time I could not find anything to restore the car. And hail damage had beaten it badly. But being a standard z31 I figure interior parts are more redily avalible.

weather seals probably not. console lid try courtesy Nissan. interior stuff junkyard. try msa or black dragon. download the fsm from xenon invaluable takes a little getting used to the way it is organized but all the info is in there. here is my general advice from owning three of them:
Get your battery load tested. Be sure you have clean, tight corrosion free terminals on both ends of your battery cables. Be sure the ground (negative) cable goes to a bolt into the frame before going to the starter. grounding through the starter is not a reliable connection. Z's don't like low voltage. causes the electronics to act funny. it is possible to have enough amps to crank but not enough voltage to run the electronics. If you have one size fit all cheapo clamp on terminals they are a problem waiting to happen.
Clean the connectors for the maf or afm, ecu and tps. Deoxit by CAIG is probably the best connector cleaner on the market. spray with CorrosionX after cleaning and before putting together this will help prevent any further corrosion.
Replace outer tie rod ends, and ball joints. replace the bushings with poly (don't forget to lube them as directed unless you like squeaky things). New shocks. all those things will make you think you are driving a different car. doing them piece meal is a waste you won't see a great improvement until you do the complete job. Rear bushings nice too but more work and you won't notice as great an improvement. Rear shocks also because if the fronts are gone so are the rears. if car squats when you jump on the gas the rears are gone. If you have the electro adjustable shocks they are DEFINITELY GONE.
plugs, wires, dizzy cap, rotor, vacuum lines should all be replaced most likely

I have downloaded the FSM, for my z32 and the z31 now.
Mechanically I know it needs some work, things wear on the z32's and I def know the problems with those. Actually sounds similar in a lot of ways. I figured weather stripping would be hard to come by, I'm going to try softseal and see if they have any. I'm a mechanic by trade, the mechanic issues are not a problem. It's the body stuff that isn't my thing... Hopefully I can find what I need! Thanks for the reply btw!!

Most everything you need is available in used parts from the Z31 community. This site does not have a very big Z31 following, try Z31performance.com or one of the Z31 facebook groups. I have many, many used Z31 parts including black interior stuff. I sell on the Seattle Craigslist site and at Activity Stream - Z31Performance
