Hi,

I feel awkward making so many form posts, but this is my only car and im too poor to afford anything else. Anyways—

My 86’ NA recently started having a rough idle at random points, she’ll be fine for a few seconds, then rough idle, go back to being fine, until her RPM drops from 900 to nearly dead. The car shakes when the rpms drop and the battery voltage gauge on the car will be 14 and drop down to 10-11 when shaking, then back to normal. Under acceleration she’ll go back to being fine—and I’ve already had the idle air control valve fixed, as she’s died on me before while idling. Breaking/stopping makes the shaking worse, causing me to die at a light once. I haven’t had the money until now to go to the mechanic, but I’m hoping I won’t have to.

I checked the air filter and I’ll be replacing that soon to hopefully help the problem. I plan to clean out the distributor cap as I’ve looked through previous forums before and that may cause it. I have to go to work on Monday so I’m hoping to have this fixed soon. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.

Update: I went ahead and cleaned/tightened the screws on the idle air control valve and got an air filter, and it’s fixed. if anyone else is having this issue consider doing this!
