Re: rear end squating
replace the shocks with metal rods is the only way to make it not squat. Course, that means you lose any suspension travel you had.
to make it squat less, replace the springs and shocks.

Sounds like your car just sucks Craig. I beat stock 88 civics with my 84NA and a 5 speed.

Re: rear end squating
there is nothing wrong with it..i just aircared it 2 weeks ago without any problems and i spent a thousand on a tune up..the car is in good condition...the 3 speed automatic just takes forever to get going..thus makes z31's slow...they can't even burn out unless you do a breakstand in the rain...

Re: rear end squating
just because it runs good and sounds good and passes emissions does NOT mean it is running right. My step dad used to take his 911 to the porsche tuner to make it pass emissions. It ran like [censored] when they did it. After the test, he'd take it right back and they'd make it run right. World of difference.
Who did the tune up, and what was done?

Re: rear end squating
just a local auto repair shop...the timing belt was changed. break pads, new air filter, all my hoses were changed cuz they were gettin too old, oil leak was fixed, and all my fluids were changed.... The car isn't like pathetically slow like it'll beat the newer stock v6 mustangs...but it is deffinately slow...i don't have a clue what could be wrong...gas mileage also sucks ***...but i think it is mostly the way i am driving and i only drive in the city for short distances..

Re: rear end squating
Your cat may be working, but could be clogged up.. thus hurting performance...
Also check your throttle cable, and make sure you have full travel.
Your 86 also has the taller gears in it.. 3.54 diff non lsd.
I could hang with stocko 5.0 mustangs of the 80's with my 88 300zxt 2+2 auto.
With uping the boost a few psi, and a cat back exhaust system, it just wails now..
Mid 14's all day long now.. shocks a lot of drivers!!
Now I can't spin the tires off the line.. (unless holding the brake too) But it does spin them when the auto tranny shifts to second.. sometimes it will get a bit squirely on some types of pavement.
You should be able to obliterate most hondas.. minus the S2000, and maybe some preludes.. (assuming they are all stock)

Poor Craig.
My dad's 1988 300 ZX Turbo Special (German model) which was purchased in Bermenhaven with all the sporty packages, such as suspension, body, wheels and so on... bought by an American general, purchased by my full bird cononel uncle, and passed on throughout the family, will do well over 160. My aunt can testify to that when she was driving down the Autobahn highway, she backed out at 167 (Don't you love digital?). The car has had no modifications on it. Straight out of the factory. Back to Craig though (sorry, love to gloat), I give motorcycles a hell of a time with the 5 speed tranny, one civic beat me, but then he was running a car with twin turbos.. no other honda has come close I drove it at his home town in Pocatello, ID.. the kids there have S2000s and del sols and civics out the you know what.
Later Z Maniacs,
Daniel

Re: rear end squating
lets see... 167 kmph (since almost everyone but the US uses metric) is about 105 mph.
uh, yeah. even my NA can do that.

Re: rear end squating
my piece of crap 300zx turbo can get going a good 220kmh, its just the acceleration that blows...i'm probably just gonna sell it and get a 90 300zx twin turbo, body kit, boost controller, intake, exhaust, and i'll be running low 13's...how could you possibly complain...

Re: rear end squating
I've taken the beast up to 95 in 3rd gear, I know it does well over 105. 2 more to go you know. 34 in 1st (yes I was extremely hard on it) 2nd 58, and 3rd around 95, it was close to red line, but I backed out, I have never taken it higher than 95.
