rotor position?

So I replaced my cas and couldnt get the rotor to line up exactly howbit was. I set the engine back to tdc and I know the rotor is is supposed to be facing #1 cylinder, but Here is my question: is the beginning of the rotor before #1 contact point or am I supposed to be in the middle? Pictures would be vary helpful. Ive seen one floating around before but havent had luck finding it again

somewhere in the middle is what I remember. you want to able to go either way to set the timing so you don't want all your adjustment gone before you start.

i followed the FSM, then had a mechanic time it properly. mechanic charged me 40$ because it only took him like half an hour to do it properly.
