Sr20det z31

I was wondering if anyone has ditched the VG30ET and swapped a SR20DET or know of anyone that has done it. I am interested in doing it so is it a good idea, bad idea, possible, impossible?

they had a guy swap a sr in a z32. dont ask why. anyway putting a sr in a z31 is possible. all that work for a 4 banger when you can pretty much slap in a rb. whats so wrong with the vg?

Well my VG at moment is giving me probs to where it wont start. I see where you are going with ditching a V6 for a 4 cyl and I thought of getting a RB20 or 25 but man, they are expensive. Thr VG30 is a good motor and I learned that its used in a high powered Nissan racecar. Im just fed up with fighting mine.

the RB25 isn't much more than an SR. its the 26 thats incredibly expensive. and an RB20 is not a better choice over the SR even in my book. a 2L 6 cylinder? bleh!

if you can't figure out how to fix your vg (which is fairly simple), how do you expect to finish a somewhat poorly documented motor swap?

Man Im sure glad you think that fixing my VG is simple enough because if it was, i should be driving it right now. Never did I state that I was going to do it for sure, instead, I asked if it was known of anyone doing it and that I was interested or liked the idea of doing it.

I'd buy another VG30ET and rebuild it before I went with a 4cyl.

Search for threads by racinjitter at www.88hybrid.com. He has a really nice RB25 swap into a 87 Z31.

He's now working on a RB30 upgrade.

the VG30 and SR20 are both great cars, but I don't think it's nessesary to swap the VG to SR...

They aren't "cars". They are engines.

To answer the original question... There have been a couple of idiots who have swapped in SR20DETs into their Z31s. But for some reason, they won't post their dyno numbers, nor how much they spent on the conversions. The conclusion is that the swap will get you not much power for a lot of money.
