Thoughts?/The New Guy
Hi there,
I've been into Z's for quite awhile now as well as Mazda's and in the past week I decided I was going to go for broke, take out a loan and myself the car I've always dreamed of. I was cruisin on Ebay this morning and found this guy (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=160049398319)
I thought maybe I would post it on the forums right away and let you guys decide if it is worth it or not. i know quite abit but I'm sure many of you are much smarter. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you have any questions for the new guy let're rip.

Welcome, Tattoos! Hmm, "thousands of upgrades"? That's a major misstatement. The only upgrades I see listed in his auction are the ECU chip (although he doesn't specify which one), intercooler, boost controller and K&N filter. All the other features are standard for the 85 300ZX Turbo model. There are covers over the seats (could mean the original seats are severely blemished). I can't tell from the pix, but it appears there's excessive chips in the paint on the nose. He also describes the interior as "burgundy" (all I see is black and tan), "driver airbag" (NOT) and the exterior is "blue" - could be a cheap camera. What does that tag say on the rear also (doesn't look like Michigan to me)?
This seller also has absolutely NO feedback, and this is his very 1st auction on eBay. He also fails to mention whether there's any rust problems, mechanical or physical issues, or anything else - appears to only post what he thinks might entice buyers, and try to fool them into believing that the standard options for this Z are "upgrades".
Based on the above, I wouldn't bid on the car if I were you. Sorry, but I just don't trust the seller. Even if I did, the current bid is $1,300. That's the most I'd pay for it, even with the 4 upgrades and the current condition I can see from the pix.

If I were you, I’d take a pass on that car. Besides what’s been stated above:
I think the car has been repainted. 1985 models were not offered in two tone paint. The lower body’s gold colored paint is not factory paint. He says the exterior color is blue but it looks black to me.
Michigan is a state that liberally spreads salt on the roads during winter. If the owner really does live there, then watch out for that dreaded four letter r-u-s-t word. If the car is rust-free, then he’d probably say so and want a higher selling price.
Nothing is said concerning the last timing belt change but he might have forgotten to mention it.
He says the car has power seats but power seats were only available with the leather option. The photo of the steering wheel shows he doesn't have the leather.
1985 turbo models had blacked out tail light lens in addition to the blacked out center lens section. He replaced the blacked out lens with regular red tail lamp lens found on 1984 models. Nothing wrong with doing that but just so you know.

WOW, I thought I knew stuff about Z's you guys are nuts (in a good way) I now understand why everyone says "check online for forums" when you ask them a car question they don't know the answer to. You guys are all a huge help and I'm not bidding on the car. Looks like I sadly go without a dream car for awhile still, but in the words of Wayne Campbell; "It will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine." Thanks again guys your awesome.

Yea these guys are great in knowing everything about the cars. I know what they are talking about when they say you know your dream car when you see. Thats my z now. My brother found it and told me about it we went up and looked at 1500 no rust, new tranny, turbo, and completey stock. Not to mention white. Its takes time trust me spent 3 years looking for this baby. I don't let anyone drive it.

He says thousands of dollars in upgrades. Which is very possible. The Spearco IC kits ran $1300 when new. A CM exhaust will approach $1000 if it's stainless. And the other little things added can bring the cost up a little.
What I can't understand is why people don't bother even trying to clean their car when taking pictures of it to sell. It looks like they drove around a dirt lot and then took pictures of it in the rain.
