Re: vg30det
There was NO vg30DET released in the US in any car. The turbo engine in the z31 is a vg30et (no D). The engine in the z32 twin turbos was the vg30dett (tt=twin turbo).
The vg30det (notice only one t...but has the d)... it was only released in Japan. I know they made some that were 260hp stock, but they put the engine in a few cars, and the hp rating could be different on each car.
The vg30det has a single turbo, but is DOHC...and has much larger heads and ports than the US released vg30dett does.

Re: vg30det
the stock hp on the vg30det engine made 230hp not 260hp and the single turbo vg30de never appeared in the z31 fairlady Z models..the vg30det only appeared in the Nissan Y32 and Y33 Cedric series models. I dropped this engine into my 89 turbo ...it runs very smooth and fast. engine w/ everything and installation was around $2100..but i think its worth it...

If I'm not mistaken, they did make this engine for more than one type of car and not all of them had the same HP.

a vg30de has no turbo.

Check into the Cima....and there was one other that I can't remember.

Not too bad overall...how much of that was the engine?

Re: vg30det
VG32det came in:
Fairlady Z31 86 - 89 (I assume the japanese models)
Cima II (FPY32) 93 - 96
Leopard (UF31) 88 - 92
Cedric/ Gloria (Y32) 91 - 95
Click here if you wanna see where I got it
What I want to know is where can I get the DET, how much, and is it a bolt on or do I have to do a lot of crazy stuff to make it work?
Next question. Does any one know about the RB30det? (rb-race built (I think) D-DOHC and the T for turbo. What's the e?)

Re: vg30det
VG32DET did NOT come in any Z31. Matter of fact, the VG32 doesn't even exist as a stock Nissan product. And that sheet is wrong. Notice they don't say anything about the VG30et, VG20et or VG30e as motors being in the Z31. The ONLY year the VG30de or VG30dett may have actually come in the Z31 just before the Z32 came out. And then, only a few cars got it.
D = dual overhead cam.
E = Electronic Fuel Injection
T = turbo
TT = twin turbo
30 = 3.0L engine
32 = 3.2L engine
33 = 3.3L engine.
VG = V6 series G engine.
RB = Inline 6 series engine not race built.

Re: vg30det
most power for the money?
uhhh... that depends on how much you spend on the engine. I bought a used 84T motor for $200. That's $1 per horse power!!!
Think about this, buy a JDM engine, and you will have to buy lots of other stuff at JCM prices cause they don't have anything like it over here.
Then again, you may get lucky and get an entire front clip for next to nothing cause some idiot bought it and couldn't figure out how to cut his old front off and weld the new one on.
