You'll never guess what happened...
On my way home from work last night, I was making a left hand turn onto a fairly busy street from a side street when all of a sudden *POW* and no forward motion, in the middle of traffic! So I rev it up to see if it will go, no go, I jump out of my car and flag down traffic and look frantic, hoping to get some help pushing my car out of the way, and 2 people jumped out to help me. I call the tow truck and wait while trying to figure out what happened... We thought it was the diff, maybe the spider gears had blown? The drive shaft ws turning, and there was a friction noise from the diff, but no loose parts, no visible damage... but no, after many hours labour, we find that my half shaft blew up inside the boot on the drive side, so hence, no motion! ARGH! But luckily there was an axle at a local wrecking yard, so guess what I"ll be doing tonite!

Re: You'll never guess what happened...
Well it's just my luck, I think someone was watching out for me, because there was a single halfshaft at one wrecker here and one of my friends picked it up and installed it for me while I was at work! What a guy! I've never heard of that happening to anyone else's car, and I've never seen it happen to a 300, the turbo shafts are huge! But now I have a little piece, almost half a inch long, of the axle which I keep in my pocket! It's been going for a long time, I know that now that I have another one in my car, it feels waaaaaay better, I was getting weird driveline shudders and vibrations from time to time, and I thought it had something to do with the driveline swap we did a while back or my exhaust hitting the body somewhere, but now I know! And I don't ever want that to happen again!
The turbo isn't much easier to change, but it does have less bolts... =) Nicer looking unit too.
The Beast is back and badder than ever!
