Cleaning The Distributor Cap

I replaced my spark plug wires, but it seems like theyre coming loose. I was able to get most of them on the distributor cap all the way, but a couple feel like theyre not quite getting on as far as they should. I hear the "snap", but it seems like theyre just not quite on. Is there a way to possibly clean out the distributor cap to make a better connection. I also noticed that when I turn my lights on, my RPM goes up...is this normal. Thanks Guys.

the way i make the wires fit tighter is by stretching the contacts of the wires apart, so that they squeeze in tighter.

That makes sense and I considered doing so, but I wasnt sure if that would in ruin it in some way.

as long as they don't break i don't see how it could cause any problem.
