Welcome to ZDriver!

Download the FSM for free: XenonZ31 Reference
Check vacuum lines for cracks.

FYI... the Z31 model started in 1984.

welcome,

Beautiful car!

your seat belt tag should reveal your year model...looks like an 84

After reviewing the FSM you may have to replace/tape/trim some vacuum lines to get the proper airflow. dont know how long youve had her and what the PO did...

my question is...the same one on bourbon street...why dont you take your tops off?

weather is great here in NC hope you get the prob fixed...

respectfully,

Shogunb

Like my 84, it was actually made in the summer of 83. Like any new model car, this summer you will be able to buy a 2014 model. I'm guessing that's where you got the 83 from, maybe.

vacuum lines

The climate control and all the associated venting is controlled by vacuum, a leak in any of the lines will cause issues. Check the lines under the hood, are they brittle, cracked or stiff at all, if so, replace them. many times just the ends will fray or crack, just trimming of a short piece will give you a fresh good end to connect back up. If the lines are in an over all bad condition, just go to a parts store with a small piece and ask for 20 feet or so (just guessing). Obviously only replace one piece at a time, only a crazy person would pull all the vacuum lines off at once...

85 z31 Climate Control Issues

I recently purchased my 3rd 300zx (85 Turbo, 5spd, all digital, climate control package, etc...) My AC would only blow on defrost and from the floor vents. When it was extremely hot, it would intermittently blow out of the dash vents.

Well upon doing some investigating, I found that someone had removed the interior ambient temp sensor located between the t-tops in the headliner. These aspirator fans/temp sensors are known to wear out and make a grinding, squeaking, rattling sound. Apparently it was doing that so the prior owner just removed it.

I purchased a new sensor from 300zxpartsforyou.com and now my A/C works like a champ! Couldn't be happier

Hi. You are aware other countries also got the Z31 and some of them consider the model year to have started in 1983, right? Especially if they got a Japanese import like Australians do all the time?

Seeing as how his handle is "NZ_Z31", I'm going to put money on him being in New Zealand.

Number 1. Attach the AC belt.
Number 2. Replace ALL the vacuum lines, starting with those in the engine bay.
Number 3. The digital controls on the climate system were crap. You really can't control where the air comes out. The computer does all that for you.
