Exclamation HELP! new z owner , motor question

I recently bought 84 300zx and the last owner put a new motor in it but didn't finish hooking it up , from my research I've figured out the body is a non turbo body, but from just looking at pictures on Google the motor looks to me to be a vg30et motor?? how can I tell for sure ? is there something on the motor I can look at or what ?

Well.. does it have a turbocharger attached to it? That would be one way to tell..

with that picture the motor is a vg30e?. if you have a tubo charger it is buried down low on the driver side. follow the intake piping from the maf to where it goes. you will find a turbo charger or just goes to the throttle body.

thanks , I looked and no turbo unfortunately . it goes straight to the throttle body. Now I just have to figure out why i'm not getting spark to the coil.

spark comes from the coil not goes to it. Crank angle sensor or ecu two possibility. BAd coil or bad igniter. you getting power to it?

i'm not much of a mechanic , so sorry if my lingo is off. This is kinda my project to learn on . and I checked and no power is going to the coil and the coil fuse inside the driver side kick panel and its not blown .

you need to study some electrics. the ecu bumps the igniter (power transistor). that bumps the coil when the magnetic field of the primary collapses it generates 10-20 KV which is what makes spark. read the fsm free download at xenon if you don't have it. it used to be done with points (when I was a boy and dinosaurs roamed the earth.) maybe read up on that.

I have a haynes book that I've been using to try to figure out what to look at next and xenon site has helped quite a bit too. I checked if the power transistor is getting power to it and it is , but its not getting to the coil . Is there a way to check if the transistor is bad so its not putting power back out ?
