Maxima alternator swap into '86T
I finally was able to get a '92 maxima alternator from the junkyard, I was so excited that I didn't look or get the VIN to confirm if it was a SOHC or DOHC....does it matter???
The guys at the local alternator shop is telling me that only the SOHC voltage regulator would work with my Z....is this true?

Lots of info on the intrawebs about this swap:

Does the alternator look like this?
Hopefully you didn't pay much for that junk yard alternator... you never know what kind of "deal" you're getting until install.

Ya, I've already read both write ups before many times, but neither mention whether SOHC or DOHC is a factor... I just got caught off guard when the guy at the alternator shop told me it did matter. So I guess it's safe to assume that if Zbum did mention it in his write up then I shouldn't worry about it????

Oh, and no 92 Maxima came with a DOHC VG motor in North America. So to answer your question. No. It doesn't matter what VG powered Maxima you pulled the alternator from. They're all SOHC. And yes. Only the SOHC will be a simple swap.
HOWEVER! There was a VE powered Maxima that was DOHC. But if you can't tell the difference between the two motors, you probably need to learn to pay more attention to what you're doing.
