NEW to 300zx 1986 NA
#26
Hey everyone. Its been awhile but i finally have my new house. I have been working hard on my 86 and managed to finally pull the motor. I got the clutch disc off and it looks to be in really good shape. How thick are they normally? I have a tight budget right now with getting married in may. I want to keep using the clutch i have if it is still good. I have been taking pictures and i will post them this weekend hopefully along with finishing the swap.

So i got the motor in and got it running. Its doesnt run great so i got some trouble shooting to do. I will take a video and post it. I have a lot of connectors that dont seem to go to anything. I swapped in an 84 motor into my 86. Where there any differences in the motors as in sensors? I will for sure post the pictures tomorrow night along with the video. Any advice would be helpful. thanks

I kept it n/a for now. I am wanting to get it up and running then do the suspension. I want to convert it later Along with rebuilding the motor from the ground up. This was my first motor swap and I did it all on my own. I have the old short block and I'm thinking of rebuilding that motor for the turbo conversion. What's your opinion?

It is up to you. Could always get a W series block from the later z models floating wrist pins and better heads. Another option is to get a vg33. Always comes down to how much money you wanna spend or can afford. I have a built w series block with OWO heads (vg33 heads) on my z31.

This is the missing piece. what is this thing and what does it go too?
also, what sensor is this? the 84 block does not have one.
is this wire just a ground?
some pictures!
parts car.

I got it running and it is running pretty strong. Straight off the headers!
I will take a video later. i dont want to **** off the neighbors to much. lol
I has a little fluctuation on idle and if i hold the pedal at a continuos rpm. I do need new wires but there are new plugs. i broke the drain plug on the slave cylinder so i have to pull out the one on the old car. I really want to drive it!!!!! RACE CAR

Pics
Took some pics of my harness so you can refer to it, on the Ground wire you had, it goes to the coil, the small silver cylinder with the 2 dimples must be a condenser or something, thats where the Dizzy wire goes. The rest of the picks will help I hope, was the mystery connector a 2 or 4 prong ? The Dizzy wire you are holding should plug into a pigtail on the coil/ condenser, probably just hanging down out of site under the coil.

thanks for the pictures. I got where the wire goes to the coil. Now i figured out what the 2 prong wire goes too. it goes to the blower on bottom of the block on the passenger side. What does the blower do? My 84 does not have it on there, but my 86 motor does. do i need to swap it over? i dont know what it's purpose was. Are there any really big parts i should take off the white car before i scrap it?
On another note. i fixed the clutch and i think i got out all the air. The clutch grabs at the very top. I only need to push it down about 1/4 of the way. Does that sound about right? My audi tt went about halfway with a new clutch.
I have to add tranny fluid tomorrow, bleed the brakes(BTW the first hose outlet leaks a very little bit when i have it tightened all the way down) and tighten down the fenders then its the first drive around the neighborhood. WHOOT

Turbo heat
I'd guess that you would not need it on an NA motor, the turbo has to generate enough heat under the hood that the injectors were heating up enough to cause premature failure or faults... just guessing. I certainly wouldn't hurt to use it, unless, like you said its a pita.

im going to look into it tonight and see how difficult it is going to be to swap it over. I would rather have it for when i do a turbo conversion. Latter down the road i want to get the whole body done and painted. Im going to build a vg33 possibly on the side to turbo. i want to have about 400hp! but who knows whats going to happen

so after doing some research i found out the the late turbo models do not have one. So I am not going to swap it over. It was raining really bad so I didn't get to drive it tonight, but i did get to weld most of the exhaust on and I got the new master cylinder. I still have some welding to do on the exhaust but it is a lot quieter. I will take a video of the first drive( i hope tomorrow) or just of it running if i ever get home early enough to run it for a while. good night.

I DROVE IT FOR THE FIRST TIME! It is such an amazing feeling to drive a car after putting so much work into it. I have the video uploading now and i will post as soon as it is ready. Thank for all the help. i still have a lot of body work to do as well as clean and tuning up. I need to replace timing belt, water pump, all the belts, drop the gas tank and discard the 4+ years old gas. I did add a bottle of heat and good gas to it when i picked upped the car so i have a half a tank. I also need to finish welding the exhaust. It is still to loud right now. good night everyone.
------- here is the video of the first drive
