I have an 88 z turbo w/ AT. The tranny was rebuilt less than a year ago and I'm having problems with it again. It doesn't want to shift into first gear on its own (from a stop). It will go in if I shift it down to 1, though. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

 

had this problem several years ago, luckily the transmission guy I was doing business with was honest, he had also just made a good fee off me for rebuilding the transmission in my girlfriend's car

when I called him to make an appointment to bring it in and described the problem he told me it was just dirt in the modulator valve and that he could charge me for taking it out and clening it, or I could just pull the shifter down to 1 at a stop and then bump it up to Drive once the car was moving and that after a few days it would probably clear up on its own and it did

when I asked him about rebuilding the transmission in my '83 280ZX while it was being restored cuz it was slipping going into second gear, he said it wouldn't cost anymore to rebuild it completely when it quit pulling altogether so to go ahead and drive it ... that was over ten years ago, its still working exactly the same way
