Turbo vs high compression setup

So rebuilding a 1988 z31 n/a when it was suggested to me (by a Chevy guy) to run a higher compression to yield more HP instead of turbo...thoughts are much appreciated.

might work on a chevy but doubt running the compression up will get you the same horses as a turbo. you would probably have to put in a magnasquirt to get the fuel mapping right. If you drop in a vg30et you can up the boost to 10psi (which is analogous to going to a higher compression ratio - is that guy still running a v8 with carburetors on it). My 86 works very well with stock components and still beat the honda kids with the 8 inch tailpipes. even suprised a BMW puke yesterday out on the highway. depending on time and money you wish to spend my buddy gets a little over 300hp on his 86
