Will Not Hold Charge

My 84 na wil not hold charge overnight. Its not the altenator because when i put a jump box on to get it running its fine for the rest of the day. Its only when it sits for long period of time whitout starting it. I bought a new battery, but that didn't seem to help, i have gone through the car countless times looking for anything that could be doing this, but so far nothing. Does anyone have any experience with this type of problem?

I'll put 5 bucks on it being the door pin switch. You're gonna have to explore your cars wiring with a multimeter.

not sure if the z`s have this problem but I know a bad voltage regulator can do what your describing. I would probably ignore me and listen to everyone else though.

if the voltage regulator when out then it would be either over charging and killing the battery or it wont charge/enough to fully charge the battery...

Not always, I have a thunder chicken the v-regulator went out. And it wouldn`t keep a charge overnight. Took me months to figure it out because it didn`t fit the profile. Just something else to check.

Ha, 1987 ford Thunder Bird. And it was externally regulated.

oh man....

The name should give it away... it's the switch for the doors. When you open a door, it pops out and turns on the interior lights.

I'd try a test light on the hot wire of all the accessories. the ones that you can't tell that they are obviously on just by lookign at them of course...
