Hello,

On the driver side rear quarter panel I have two areas that have rusted and I just wanted to hear any suggestions on the best way to fix. I asked the body shop down the street and they wanted $2,000 to do the work. I'm certainly not an experienced body work guy but I don't have an extra 2g's either.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

there's not much way around doing expensive body work when you get rusty. it really needs to be cut out and have new metal welded in, or that new thing where they do that special sand blasting and fill it with some other metal. the only common shortcut is to stuff it with bondo, which is a very poor long term solution.

As long as you can't poke a hole through the metal w/ a screwdriver, you probably won't have to cut it out & replace it. However, cutting out a rusted area is the only 100% sure way to prevent it from coming back.

In your case, you could remove the bumper, grind away the rust, treat it, use some aluminum filler, then a light body filler (NOT BONDO), prime, and repaint. Though, with no bodywork experience, I suggest not practicing on a Z32.

You could call around to some body shops & get different quotes. You could also ask them if they are training anyone & could donate a project for the student to work on.
