HELP--White Face Gauge Installation
I got a set of white face gauges from NR Auto. I've got a 93 300zx Conv. I've got the guts to try this with my gauges, but I'm looking for some detailed instructions to take out all the guess work. Anybody know where I can get some?
Also, I had to take the plain white gauges with stock-style numbers as my second choice. My first choice was the reverse indiglo with italic numbers. The only problem is, I can't find them for 92+. Several sites sell full indiglo for the 92+ Z's, but not reverse indiglo. Does anybody know what the difference in the 90-91 and the 92+ gauge is and why the 90-91 gauges won't work on 92+ cars??? Or, does anybody know where I can get a set of reverse indiglo with italic numbers for my 93??
Thanks,
waterdog

Waterdog,
Actually the Z changed throughout the model years, mainly slightly but it did change. Just like the 90 model Z made before (02/90, I believe) is different than the ones made after. In any case, gauges are really easy on a Z. One of the easiest I've done. I don't know where you can find detailed instructions but I will give you instructions, as best as I can remember them anyway. If you run into any problems just email me.
OK here goes, you will have to remove the cover around the steering wheel, the cover above the steering wheel, and I believe the panel on the side (beside the door jamb) and the panel below the steering wheel. You will also need to remove the 2 pods on each side of the steering wheel. You will be able to get to the 3-4 screws holding the gauge pod in. Remove those screws and then you will have either 1 or 2 electrical connectors in the back of the gauge pod (I believe there are 2). After that you will have the gauge pod separate from the car, now there are 2 wires on that need to be removed from the back of the panel before you take the clear plastic panel off (I believe it is a red and yellow wire). After that you will be able to remove the clear plastic panel (I think there are 6-8 screws in it). Now DO NOT remove the needles (I'm pretty sure that all of the Z gauge kits DO NOT require the removal of the needles). You should be able to thread the new gauges over the needles. Be real careful with the needles, I have seen some people force them and end up breaking one. I got to this point and found out that the gauges I had would not fit my car. Oh well. Anyway, after you install your gauges you can run the wires and that is pretty much all there is to it.
It has been a while since I have installed gauges on a Z so if someone can confirm me on this I would appreciate it.
