Stillen Front Facia

I really like the Type III with the discrete lip (http://www.stillen.com/product.asp?i...AN&model=300ZX)

Besides painting, how difficult is this to install? Does it install over the OEM front end or is there some hidden work that needs to be done for proper fit?

Yeah, I guess the jspec is sexier but I like the stillen's for it's subtle aggressive look.

The JSPEC does look nice. I just don't like the IC air scoop - makes the car look like any other front end out there. The finned OEM scoop is original and unique. You see it and you know immediately that it's a Z32 TT. I like that.

BTW, back to installation - I checked my front end and it seems like the lower lip and the rest of the bumper are one molded piece. So, doe the JSPEC and Stillen then just bolt over the OEM lower valance or am I missing something?

I installed my type III. I went ahead and paid a shop $100 to paint it because I have no experience working with urethane.

On the lip itself, I wasn't really happy with the overall quality of the product. That being the way it came out of the mold and the way the flash was trimmed off. Kind of buggered up a bit. The fitment was o.k. It needed to be trimmed a little here and there. The biggest issue was with the ends where it wraps around the stock fascia by the wheels. On one side, I had to add some shims because of a gap where it needed to be riveted on. The other side needed some trimming and then heating to get it to stretch around the corner of the fascia. The install instructions are kind of poor. If you haven't installed anything like this before, you'll want to pay to have someone do it for you.

Overall, I really like the unique look of it as opposed to the stock look or the well over-done look of the J-spec version. On that note, I do have a J-spec fascia laying around that will most likely go on the '94 when it gets a TT swap.

You have to remove the stock fascia to install the lip. It slides over the stock lower portion and rests in the groove where the existing black stripe is. You install a couple of bolts/nuts in the front on each side of the large opening. You get some double-sided tape to make the lip stick around the sides, and you install some pop rivets where the lip raps around the wheel openings. Separate from the instructions, I also installed some short sheet metal screws with glue around the sides where the stock black stripe is. I did this instead of using the double-sided tape.

Do your research, these is no Type III fascia. There's a GTZ-R fascia, GTZ-R2 fascia (a.k.a. Catfish 2), and then there are the GTZ and Type III lips.

Forgiven SNW. But based on CanyonCarver explanations, the front facia still has to come off for the lip to be installed. I wonder why the make it so one has to go to soooo much trouble just to install a lip!

Do you really that the entire front bumper has to be pulled off just to install the Type-III lip? Why would they make it so difficult? How do the Type-III fins fit over the OEM's? I know, lots of questions, but I'm new at the Z32 mod thing.

No, the fascia doesn't *have* to be removed to install it, but if you want a good install you'll remove it. And quit being a p*ssy, removing the fascia is easy.

As for the fins (which are usually called gills), go look at the pics that were posted... there was at least one good one showing it.

BTW, Type III > JSpec

You have good memory, LOL. I'm not pussying. The problem is my schedule. I don't have any problems taking out the front facia and reinstalling it. The problem is that - just like with my POP Charger experiment - as soon as I'm midway, something will come up and I'll either have to leave the project partially done or put it all back together. The summer is much better for me and that's why I'm collecting info and asking the questions now. During the summer, the kids are out of school and all I have to worry about is Z-meets and vacations. Between the boat and the other cars, I have always been able to find a 2-3 day stretch to work on any particular automotive issues that afflict my small fleet. I've moved the POP charger, horn and Type III front facia install to the summer. Trust me, I know what I'm talking about. Otherwise, I'd have to farm the work out to some shop, and I never trust farming out to externals!!! I'll always find something to complain about their work!!!!!

you can always.....research

dont just half *** the job. remove the entire bumper. its not that difficult. and dont expect owning/modding a z32 is going to be easy.

you have to order the TT lip (like you should anyways) because it is wider than the n/a to allow space for the side mounts

I get you buddy. I usually do a ton of research so I don't do a half *** job ... that's why I started this thread. I will have it done on my terms in my own time and if the front end has to come out for the most efficient fitting, it'll come out. My problem right now is deciding where to start - performance vs appearance mods. The Z32 is so mod ready compared with my Z31 that the limit is only a matter of how much $$$ one's willing to put in it. I would like a good set of 17's to spiff up the exterior but I still haven't found a tastefully affordable set yet. This is a daily driver for me and my goal is to get to Stage III in 3 years, then slam the brakes on mod fever, I hope!!!
