Cant be any worse than be having to bang around in that storage slot unter my current stereo with a wrench when that damned thing clicks off on me now....lol
Yes people, I know it's a bad connection....that's what started this thread
If it makes you all feel better I wrap the end of the wrench in a towel so I don't crack the plastic.
WOOO!!! Cheap, simple and it fits! http://www.crutchfield.com/S-ONpb4JC...00&I=099CD1000

it really depends on how much you want to pay, there are some units that can use a flashdrive(think thats what its called) but ive heard bad things, like bad sq, preout noise, and all that. Jus about every compeny makes an pm3 deck nowadays. IMO i say stick with pioneer, eclipse and clarion or an older alpine.
The alpines have really fallen off, horrible sq low preout voltage. They only have a few that are worth buying and there pricey. If u you wanted i could sell you my alpine 7894, made back when alpine put out great units. Im planing on upgrading to a h701 combo so this is going to be closet bound. If you want you could gimme a budget and i could show you some nice equipment for really good prices.
Whenever you get the time jus get at me on aim

I belive my better half has takent he "hints" I've been dropping and got me the above linked set and a new antenna (small type like the 350 has).
The current wiring harness is all borked up at the connector so whomever does the install I'm going to have them clip it and rewire it, leaving me enough slack to play with later on.
So basically we'll just have to see what Santa brings me
Oh, and for the record I don't do the IM thing, thanks for the offer though. ( I'm on a PC for 10 hours a day at work, thats enough for me)

If you want to know about car audio, I'm the guy to talk to. I work at a car audio shop, so hey, why not listen to what I have to say? Firstly, the head unit, or radio itself, isn't as big a difference in sound quality as you think. In fact, in my F150, I kept the factory radio, and used high-to-low adapters into the amps to power my subwoofers. Sure, you'll get better sound quality from an aftermarket radio, but truthfully, if you don't have a lot of money to spend, concentrate on amplifiers, speakers and subs first. After you have that down pact, go for an upgraded head unit. But, if your harness is fried, might as well get a new one. Personally, I'd stay far away from Eclipse. It's okay stuff, but pales in comparison to Alpine, Kenwood or Pioneer. There's no hacking of the dash involved, all you have to know is whether you have a single DIN or double DIN space for the head unit. If you'd like a single DIN radio, but have a double DIN space, we use a DIN turbokit. It's a plastic dash piece that makes the space a single DIN, and gives you storage space beneath it. I'd reccommend going for something reasonably priced, preferably a Kenwood, but don't buy anything Kenwood Excelon, you get better sound quality, but spend more. It's an audiophile difference, so that's why I recommend against it. For amps, speakers and subs, I always get the best experience out of JL Audio.

I'll be taking it in steps for both function and monetary reasons. Not sure what to do with the rear speakers but I would like to toss a couple of nice 6x9's in the doors to start with, definately get a freekin' antenna. I WOULD have had a new antenna when I got the CD player installed but the guys were a little gun-shy about tearing apart the rear compartment to get to everything.....which I appreciate. Id much rather find someone that has done it before and will do it quickly and cleanly the first time, even if it means going to a dealership or something.
As far as woofers go, time will tell and it doesn't have to be huge. I had an 8" blau'punkt (spellcheck) with a 220 watt Targa amp in my old pickup. Small cab, big sound, it was fun. I figure the Z doesn't have THAT much more airspace inside so something small and quality would fit the bill fine. Plus it's for me, I don't care if people outside can hear it.

tearing the rear compartment apart to get to the antenna is EASY. once you do it one. start from the middle panel and work your way out... or is it sides to the middle.... i think middle out. lol. and leav the small round speakers in front for the highs and clearity and then do what i did and fab new speaker mounts to hol 6x9's in the rear where tehy belong.
