Wheel/Tire diameter
Hi guys, I recently purchased a '93 2+2. I have been reading as much as my eyes could bear on wheels but haven't found an asnwer to my question.
I have an opportunity to purchase 18" wheel & tires from a friend off his 350z.
18X8 wheels, 245/45/18 Potenzas (for less than $800 US!). My concern is the diameter. Stock wheels on the N/A gives me a 24.9 inch diameter. The 350z wheels/tires results in a 26.7" diameter.
Everything I have seen on an 18" tire has a 40 profile. Is a 45 profile a problem? Is that too much? Anybody out there with 245/45/18's or tried it before?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Dan

I run 18's 40's in the front and 35's in the rear. Anytime you start increasing the outer diameter of your rolling surface you effectively change your gear ratio. You would have less bottom end but probably not that noticeable. You would gain a little on top end as long as you have the power to pull it. Now here is the big problem, say you pass a cop and think "he'll give me 5 over the limit" but then bang!!! you are actually doing 10 over. Therein lies the problem. It won't be as bad off at lower speeds , It is the higher speeds where it can come back and bite you. Other than that you are fine.
