91, N/A, 2+2 to TT Swap Legal in CA?

Hello, I bought a 91 N/A, 2+2, 5 spd in ok shape with low miles cheap. Once this engine is used up, I want to swap to a TT. But I didn't realize that the 2+2 never came with a TT motor from the factory, so will that render my swap illegal in CA?
Any insight would be appreciated,
Thanks

Here in ca u can put what ever engine in what ever car u want. The only catch is that engine has to meet or beat the smog emissions per the cars on file specs.

Wrong, you have to swap in another motor from the same year or newer including every piece of emissions equipment and it has to be from the same class vehicle, it also has to be sent to a smog ref so it can be put on record and so you can get a certificate which would make the car legal to smog. If you show up with an engine swap to a smog shop they will tag your vin in the system and force you to go to a smog ref before it can ever be registered or smogged again.

Ok. just asked dmv last week while I was there and thats what I was told. Yes they did say that it would have to be certed before it gets smoged cuz the engine mod actually gets added to the title, but if it met or beat that yrs car smog specs it didnt matter what engine it was.
*of course all the smog $hit goes with it*
