92 Stock NA questions-open to all feedback
I bought this car used and decided before I do anything I wanted to restore and make sure the engine is 100%. Well I'v run into the following problems and cannot figure out what else to look for some are obvious but I want to be sure...
STOCK ALARM
I have been trying to get the stock alarm to work
What is the fuse volt number that goes in the security fuse slot under the hood lft drivers side?
Why would it not arm?
the yellow security light on the dash continues to blink and never goes solid.
I am asking because I cannot get the system to arm.
There is an aftermaket alarm on it that chirps but does not lock the doors.
However when you open the doors the alarm sounds but not when you open the trunk or hood.
STOCK BOSE RADIO
when the radio is off the dnr light on the radio face stays on and there is a staticy beep. Goes away when you turn the system on. But the system wont stay on the attenna goes down then the system goes off and the long beep returns along with the green light on the face of the radio. Any ideas? Recently I noticed the radio stayed on during the drive and put the antenna down and the station came in clear. Its my understanding when it gets a good signal it may put the antenna down then back up if signal gets staticy? Is this correct?
It only started doing this after I changed the fuse for the alarm.
COLD START IDLE ISSUE
On a cold start the engine revs and holds a little above the 2 on the tach.
If I rev the car hard enough 1 time it begins to idle normally. It started to do this after i drive the car too.
also on a cold start you hear and feel short thuds coming from the engine. It stops and doesnt do this everytime
anyone have problems with tapping noises when reving the engine? Its in the front of the engine head.
ok so any ideas?

that's just how the alarm works. the idea is that if anyone does get in the car, when they open the door, the alarm will go off. it's hard to get around.
thuds from the engine? tapping is lifters/valves usually. no big deal. my advise there is to deal with it until causes a real problem, which probably won't happen.
as for the idle: sounds like problems in your control valves to me. do the pinch test: once the car is warm and idling at its lowest, pinch the line that goes to the middle of the balance tube, blocking off all air. if the idle drops, the two valves that that line goes through are your problem. you can take the lines off of them, and blast them with wd-40, and that will usually clear it up. for a while at least. there is a write up on rebuilding one of them on tt.net.
but, the idle circuit on these cars, i find at least, to be quite complicated. there is a lot that can mess with your idle. do some searching and you'll find that people often look to o2 sensors, TPS, AIV, AAIC, coolant temp sensor, and a few other control related items on the car to investigate when trouble shooting a high idle. some searching here and on tt.net can help you figure out which one is your problem, and how to fix it.
