We all drive like lunatics. I remember looking at a thread that was talking about how someone was doing top speed runs at least once a day. Even still, while the '90 might be safe, I just want it to be safer, that's all. But anyways, now I'm looking at a '96 in CT. Real nice, TT two seater 5-speed pearl white with tan interior. I like it. But, I'm worried about this year, too.

For the 1990 or the 1996? The 1990 I haven't even gone to see yet; I was going to, but then I reconsidered. So, I haven't even gotten in contact with the seller. As for the '96, $19,500 Negotiable.
After looking into it, Murph is right. The '96 shows power readings closer to around 280 - 290 hp, rather than 300. But, I want to get one with really low miles on it that hasn't been beat on, so I think that this '96 is gonna be the way to go.

ouch, thats a lot, even for a low mile '96. i almost picked up a '90 one owner stillen stage III TT from a retired guy, had like 30k miles on it, for 12,000. only reason i didnt was because i could not bring myself to drive that beauty every day. now if i was in the market for a secondary car, i would have snaged it in a heartbeat.

there is no solid proof that the 96s had detuned engines. they did lose VVT, and did swap over to OBDII. but they do have different cams.
the only problem youll have with a 96 is getting over 600hp because of OBDII. if you dont plan on doing that, id rather go with the 96 if it lives up to its price

don't 96' have a different cam than the other years?
And ALL (including the automatics) models had (96') the same cam, which in previous years was the deciding factor on the -20 hp loss ( in the automatics of previous years). So could that be it?

The 96 did not have less HP than the 90-95. Yes, the VTC was lost, but the VTC is not active during peak HP levels. There was a dyno on tt.net showing a stock 96TT that made the same peak rwhp levels as any other stock TT. There was a slight difference in power output during the RPM range that VTC is active though.
However, yes, the 96 is also harder to get to higher HP levels due to OBDII. For modding, the 90 is your best bet.

600 HP is a lot... Truthfully, right now I'm only looking to keep the car stock, while I get through school. After that, I might put work into it, but even then it'd probably only hit 400 to 450 hp. I really don't need any more than that. So, if I'm able to work the price of this '96 down to where it should be, then it's not such a bad idea, even without the VVT?
Oh, and Murph, if that's true, can you get in contact with him and show me some pictures? Once again, the '90s aren't really my best bet, but if it's got 16k miles on it then it's something I gotta consider.

96TT spoiler = hideous. Lack of VTC is going to give you a weaker overall powerband and possibly lower gas mileage.
And fellow Z32 owners... STOP SAYING 19.5K IS TOO MUCH FOR ANY Z32!!! THE REASON OUR RESALE VALUE IS SO GOD DAMNED LOW RIGHT NOW WHEN COMPARED TO THE RX7 AND SUPRA IS BECAUSE WE'RE UNDERVALUING OUR CARS! If we'd stop saying that a TT should only cost $7,000, the might become worth more. And if they cost more, then dumbass highschool kids who want to emulate The Fast and The Furious won't be able to afford them!

yeah well i wont be able to afford them either then, lol, i think it is to much, not saying it should be worth under 10k though. and i dont think its because we under value them i think its because the world under appreciates them, every time ou watch F&F how many Z32's do you see, none, but rx-7 skyline 240sx supra's, they come out the ******* in that movie, our car just isnt as well known to the world.

2. Be glad none of the main cars are 300ZXs, or we'd see many more 300ZXs getting riced to sh*t.
3. The market often determines cost, but demand can also be set by cost. People have this socially-developed desire for expensive goods. If we were to drive up the cost of the 300ZX by a few thousand dollars (to what it's really worth), people would want them based purely on the fact that it seems like a higher-end car (why do you think people buy Lexus and BMWs? They're not especially good quality - in fact, all the ones I've seen are pieces of **** - but they're expensive and therefore invoke a status). If people want them because they're more expensive, they'll also likely pay more. Additionally, it'll weed out the sub-humans who would rice out the 300ZX or wreck it by driving like f*cktards.
Unless you're trying to rush to sell a 300ZX, there is no reason to undervalue it. Hell, it's a masterpiece that is on par with with the Supras and RX7s that sell for double it's current costs! Why shouldn't the Z cost the same? (And for the record, I got both my TTs for $5500, but they were both worth more.) For a 96TT 5-speed with low miles (keep in mind, only about 400 96s were imported to the states), $19.5k is fair, in my opinion.

lol... at this rate, I might be willing to trade you straight up if my Z keeps being a little bitch. I love the S30s.
And by "both for $5500," I don't mean I got 2 300ZX Twin Turbos for $5500, I mean I paid $5500 for each of them.
